Coaching Approach
Ken Blanchard coaches leaders on how to become more effective as coaches. Doing so, is about developing the mindset and humility of the servant leader.
Leaders lead by setting the stage for their followers in terms of vision and direction. But they must also work with those followers to bring them from a state of dependence to one of independence in pursuit of that vision. This requires seeing people through a Situational Leadership journey that raises their level of commitment and competence to the point where they no longer need the leader's direct guidance.
It takes will and determination for a leader or coach to fulfill the vision and direction to the point where people become Self-Directed Achievers. It also takes humility. When it comes to the successful implementation of organizational strategy, the traditional hierarchical pyramid gets turned upside down. The most effective leader works from the bottom of the pyramid as a cheerleader, supporter and encourager of those with the commitment and the capability to execute. In effect, such a leader is a servant of his or her followers. Servant leaders understand that leadership is not about them; it's about what they can do to help people live and develop according to a vision.
